About Library
The central library of Fakir Mohan University was established in the year 1999. The library was named as Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab Library on 11th July, 2005 in the memory of late Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab: a great freedom fighter as well as former chief minister of Odisha, who hailed from this locality.
The ground floor of the library at old campus was constructed out of MPLAD fund of Prof, M.N Das, an eminent historian of India. The building was inaugurated on 11th July, 2004. The first floor of the same building was constructed with the financial support of Mr. M. A. Kharbela Swain from his M.P LAD fund. The built up of area of this building is 3301.86 Square feet.This floor was inaugurated on 11th July, 2005. The building of Library at Nuapadhi Campus having total built up area 14464.53 Sq. ft. was inaugurated on 2nd May, 2014 at Nuapadhi campus. There are four special galleries exhibiting the personal works/ collections of eminent persons.

Heritage Corner:
This part of the library comprises of 04 (Four) special galleries cum research cubicles named as: Fakir Mohan Archive, Padmabhushan Manoj Das Gallery, Padmashree Jayanta Mahapatra Gallery and Dr. Kabi Prasad Misra Gallery.
Fakir Mohan Archive
Fakir Mohan is considered as the rescuer of Odia Language. He is contemporary of Premchanda. Our University is named after this legendry person who is a son of the soil.
Some true copies of his hand written documents have been collected from different sources and preserved in library in print and digital for the reference of users. Books written by him and written about him are inside the room.
Besides above some rare palm leaf inscriptions (49 numbers) collected form locality are also preserved and displayed in this section. The letters written by another famous poet namely Gangadhar Meher (Swabhab Kabi) are also available inside this gallery.
Padmabhushan Manoj Das Gallery:
Manoj Das is the recipient of notable awards like: Saraswati Samman, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, etc. He is also a son of the soil. The books written by him or written about him have been collected and exhibited in the gallery.
Padmashree Jayanta Mohapatra Gallery.
Jayanta Mahapatra is an Indian English Poet. He is the recipient of notable awards like: Sahitya Academi Award-1981 as an Indian English Poet, Padma Shri-2009 etc. The author has donated some books written by him, books collected by him and mementos gifted to him. This gallery/ research cubicle is a good resource for the scholars pursuing research in English. He was a living legend for our University Community. But, unfortunately he passed away on 27th August, 2023.
Dr. Kabi Prasad Misra Gallery:
Dr. Kabi Prasad Misra was a well-known cardiologist. He was associated with Apollo Hospital, Chennai (Madras). He had also taken a leading role for establishment of Jagannath Temple at Chennai.
He has contributed books on poetry, philosophy and Bhanja literature in odia language. It also includes a large number of his own writings.
Personal collections of late Dr. K.P Mishra, a cardiologist as well as a poet and novelist are placed in this section.
Lending of laptop:
Since maximum students come from a poor financial back ground, they face problem in preparing their project /academic work. Considering their need concept of lending laptop has been introduced. Any student can borrow a laptop for the purpose of his/her academic works on production of identity card.
Assistive Technology for Low Vision Users:
Jaws software is being used to convert the pdf contents of a document to audio format which can be heard easily by low vision users. A scanner is used to convert the printed documents to pdf format.

Library Policy and Management
University has devised a policy for smooth running of Library. Besides the existing policy, Library Committee formulates guide lines for purchase of all types of resources on the basis of rules framed by Government from time to time. One among the University Teachers is assigned as “Director, Library” to look after all activities of Library.

To support the academic and research needs of our users and to improve the quality of education by bringing it at par with national and international benchmarks: by collection of print and e-resources for advancement of knowledge, exchanging resources among other organizations, equitable access and providing exemplary service with open culture.
The library is functional with the establishment of University on 11th July, 1999

Cataloguing:
This facility is available in web OPAC format of the adopted software namely eg4. The web link is hosted in University website and communicated among users in WhatsApp group. Web OPAC is accessible from android mobile and own computer system remotely. So, one can check the availability of books of his choice by clicking on the link.
Circulation:
This module is also automated. A user can issue or return his/ her books by scanning the barcode printed/ pasted on the book and membership card. Users are also are guided by the staff members deployed at the counter. An auto generated e- mail is sent to individual mail after every issue or return. He/she can also see the status of his library account through individual I.D. and password.
Reading Room cum Reference Section:
This room is equipped with competitive books, journals, encyclopaedia, dictionary, reference books and text books.
Reprographic Facility:
This facility is provided @ Rs.1/- per copy on demand.
Plagiarism Detection:
Library provides assistance for detection of similarity index with the help of OURIGINAL software. Initially it was done with TURNITIN from 2016 to 2020.
Shodhganga Submission:
Library adds the evaluated thesis of the University to the Shodhganga repository.
User Awareness Programme:
Library conducts awareness programme in physical as well as webinar mode in regular interval. Library staff members also meet the students in their class room to create awareness.

Basanti Pal Digital Library:
This is the e-resource centre of the University. This part is named after the mother of an alumnus, who has extended financial assistance through MO College Abhijan (a collective programme of Alumni). The computers are connected through LAN having a static I.P. The users can access the e-resources and use the system for their academic assignments.

Tools for Bibliographic Database:
Zotero and Mendley reference tools are attached with every document of EBSCO and Science Direct for the preparation of Bibliographic database
