Veledictory function of Five day skill training workshop on “Vermicomposting as an enterprise” in

collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua (SKUAST) was organized at Govt. Degree College for

Women Kathua

Govt. Degree College for Women, Kathua under the aegis of Hariyali Eco Club, Department of

Environmental Sciences, Institute Innovation Council and IQAC organized a five days Skill Training

Workshop on “Vermicomposting as an Enterprise” in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua

Directorate of Extension Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. A total of

50 students participated in the training workshop. During the course of training, the eminent resource

persons from Krishi Vigyan Kendra have given detailed presentations on various aspects of

Vermicomposting to the participants. Dr. Vishal Mahajan Chief Scientist and Head KVK interacted with

the students by means of informative and innovative presentations along with practical

demonstrations. A vermibed was also established in the college campus by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua

(SKUAST) involving the students themselves in setting up of vermibed by adding different layers of leaf

litter, organic waste and cowdung.The epigeic earthworm species were also introduced into the

vermibed by KVK. Dr. Anamika Jamwal Chief Scientist KVK, Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat Chief Scientist KVK and

Dr. Vishal Sharma Scientist KVK also delivered informative and elaborative lectures on vermi

composting and organic farming in respective sessions during the workshop.

Principal of the college Dr.Savi Behl in her concluding remarks appreciated the efforts of KVK for

providing a great opportunity to the students by providing them training in vermicomposting. She also

discussed future endeavors of the college including skill training on mushroom cultivation. In the

valedictory session, certificates were distributed among all the participating students.

The whole training programme was coordinated by Dr. Deepshikha Sharma, HOD, Department of

Environmental Sciences and convenor Eco Club .She also presented a detailed report of the workshop.

Dr. Kamini Kapoor conducted the proceedings of the workshop and formal vote of thanks was

presented by Prof Romika Bassin. The Eco club and IIC members including Dr. Yashpal, Dr. Karam Chand

, Dr. Renu, Dr. Manjot Singh, Dr. Ajay Sanotra, Dr. Usha Kiran, Dr. Gagan, Dr. Gurpreet extended their full

cooperation and support in the conduct of the workshop. The faculty members who were present on

the occasion were Prof. Seema Jolly, Dr. Inderjeet Kaur and Dr. Rachna Devi.
