About Library

Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2 Colaba Established in the year 1978, caters to the educational needs of the children’s employees of central govt. offices, defense personnel, ex-service men and other transferable employees liable for frequently transfers.
KV2 Colaba library is fully automated with eGranthalaya the library software developed by the NIC. Bar code labels generated and pasted on books.
The School Library hosted its Intranet and available the facilities like Online Public Access Catalogue, online reservation, book suggestions, online quiz etc. The demand from students to have access to the online library services from their home motivated us to host the library website on Internet.
KV2 Colaba library at present have a collection of about 24280 books, Educational CDs/DVDs and subscribes to 45 magazines and six newspapers. To motivate maximum utilization of library resources, various competitions and activities are organized every year.
KV2 Colaba Library Blog was started in the year 2020 during lockdown and providing all types of online services.

केन्द्रीय विद्यालय क्र.2 कोलाबा का पुस्तकालय ईग्रंथालय (एनआईसी) द्वारा विकसित पुस्तकालय सॉफ्टवेयर के साथ पूरी तरह से स्वचालित है। वर्तमान में केन्द्रीय विद्यालय क्र. 2 कोलाबा के पुस्तकालय में लगभग 24280 पुस्तकों, शैक्षिक सीडी / डीवीडी का संग्रह है, और 45 पत्रिकाओं और छ: समाचार पत्र उपलब्ध है। पुस्तकालय संसाधनों का अधिकतम उपयोग को प्रेरित करने के लिए, हर साल विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं और गतिविधियों का आयोजन किया जाता है।पुस्तकालय कार्यक्रमों के बारे में नवीनतम जानकारी पुस्तकालय के ब्लॉग के माध्यम से दी जाती है। निम्नलिखित सेवाएं ब्लॉग पर उपलब्ध हैं

पुस्तकालय ब्लॉग छात्रों को एक मंच प्रदान करता है जो उनके पठन अनुभवों को ऑनलाइन साझा करने और पुस्तक समीक्षा पोस्ट करने के लिए बहुत उपयोगी है।

It is needless to emphasize that School Library is essential to every long-term strategy for
 Literacy

 Formal Education
 Information Provision
 Economic, Social and Cultural Development.
Thus it must be supported by the local, state and national governments of the day.
In conceptual planning and development of school library services, the librarian is guided by the
stated objectives of the school. These objectives mostly pertain to the provision of reading material,
guidance in reading, reference service, instructions in the use of library catalogue and reading
materials, personal and social guidance to students etc. With little modifications here and there,
different school libraries decide about the priorities of services to be offered and frame a set of
objectives to be achieved. The major objectives of a school library are to:
 Effectively participate in the teaching-learning programme of the school;
 Provide the students with appropriate library materials both printed as well as audio visual
and services for the overall growth and development of the personality of the students as an
individual;
 Develop reading ability and interest, and inculcate love, enjoyment and pleasure of reading
amongst the students;
 Assist the students to become skillful and discriminating users of library;
 Offer opportunities for experiences in creating and using information for knowledge,
understanding, information and enjoyment;
 Support all students in learning and practicing skills for evaluating and using information,
regardless of form, format or medium, including sensitivity to the modes of communication
within the community;
 Stimulate and guide each student in the selection and use of books and other reading materials
for the building of taste at appropriate level of maturity;
 Workout a program in consultation with teachers for the effective use of all types of
library materials;

HISTORY OF LIBRARY
To cater to the educational needs of the children of transferable Central Government employees including Defence and Para-Military personnel by providing a common program of education To pursue excellence and set pace in the field of school education.

Library Rules: 1. All students and staff of the school are members of the library.
2. A student can borrow only two books at a time for a period of two weeks.
3. A staff member can borrow maximum five books at a time for a period of one month.
4. Books will be issued to the students, during the library periods. No book will be issued or returned during the teaching hours.
5. Marking, underlining or writing on library books, periodicals, and newspapers is strictly forbidden.
6. Reference books and current periodicals will not be issued to any member. These can be consulted only in the library.
7. If the books are not returned within the specified time it will be viewed seriously and fine will be charged as per rules.
8. The Librarian may call for a book at any time, even if the normal period of loan has not expired.
9. In case of book is misused, wrongly handled or lost the person concerned will have to replace the book or pay the current market price of the book.
10. After reading, make sure that the books, periodicals and newspapers are kept back at their respective places.
11. The members should take good care of library furnishings and equipment. Make sure the library looks as good when you leave as it did when you came in.
12. Drink and food are not allowed in the Library.
13. Library computers are for academic purpose only. Do not tamper with the computer settings. Follow the internet safety guidelines.
14. A ‘No Dues Certificate’ by each student is to be obtained from the Librarian while his/her transfer/withdrawal from the school.
15. Strict order and silence shall be maintained in the library and speak softly if needed.
