The Pandit Harihar Dash Library is an old and vast library consists of informative collection of both traditional and modern disciplines i.e, Veda, Vyakaran, Vedanta, Sahitya, Sankhya and Yoga Darshan, Nyaya, Jyotisha, Dharmashastra, Tantra, Purana and Geeta Sanskrit Literature, Education, Modern Subjects like History, Hindi, Odia, English and different kinds of general books. The library consists of more than 47,513 books, 177 manuscripts, 300 theses, 128 dissertations and more than 100 types of journals, different magazines and newspapers and non-book materials.

पंडित हरिहर दास पुस्तकालय एक पुराना और विशाल पुस्तकालय है जिसमें पारंपरिक और आधुनिक दोनों विषयों के ज्ञानवर्धक संग्रह हैं, जैसे वेद, व्याकरण, वेदांत, साहित्य, सांख्य और योग दर्शन, न्याय, ज्योतिष, धर्मशास्त्र, तंत्र, पुराण और गीता संस्कृत साहित्य। शिक्षा, आधुनिक विषय जैसे इतिहास, हिंदी, ओडिया, अंग्रेजी और विभिन्न प्रकार की सामान्य पुस्तकें। पुस्तकालय में 47,513 से अधिक पुस्तकें, 177 पांडुलिपियाँ, 300 थीसिस, 128 शोध प्रबंध और 100 से अधिक प्रकार की पत्रिकाएँ, विभिन्न पत्रिकाएँ और समाचार पत्र और गैर-पुस्तक सामग्री शामिल हैं।

The main objective of an academic library's selection policy is to provide the college community with a wide range of scholarly materials that are consistent with the institution's mission, curricula/research needs, and academic freedom tenets.

एक अकादमिक पुस्तकालय की चयन नीति का मुख्य उद्देश्य कॉलेज समुदाय को विद्वतापूर्ण सामग्री की एक विस्तृत श्रृंखला प्रदान करना है जो संस्थान के मिशन, पाठ्यक्रम / अनुसंधान आवश्यकताओं और अकादमिक स्वतंत्रता सिद्धांतों के अनुरूप हो।

Our Library is more than 100 years old library dating back 1865. Mahamohapadhyaya Acharya Harihar Dash a legendary eminent Sanskrit Scholar of Sriramchandrapur Village in the District of Puri, Odisha State, is the Founder of this Library and the Sanskrit Institute (ToL). The motto was to propagate the Sanskrit Learning and Culture as well as the Lord Jagannath Culture. The Library and the Institute was run from donation offered by Maharaja Sir Digvijay Singh Bahadur K.C.M.I of Balarampur State in the kingdom of Ayodhya. Hence Library collection was scanty and no Library Professional was there.
By passing the wheel of time the Institution was upgraded into a Sanskrit School which was also run by donation and the status of the Library was same. Again in the year 1918 the School was upgraded to a Sanskrit College by the endeavour and continuous effort by Mahamohapadhyaya Sri Sadashiva Mishra, Kavyakantha, a renouned Sanskrit Scholar of this region and the college was named after him as Sadashiva Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya. This was also run by the grant sanctioned by the Govt. of Bihar Odisha. No such development of library also occurred during this period.
In the year 1948 the Swadeshi Government raised the fund for the College and the library collection and Accession Register started from the year 1947 but there was no Library Professional even a Library Attendant and the library was maintained by one of the teaching staff member.
In August 15, 1971, the Department of Education, Govt of India, had taken it under its administration and the erstwhile Sadashiva Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya was renamed as Sri Sadashiva Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Puri. Funds were sanctioned for the library collection. Upto 1973, there were no Library Professional In the institution. In the year 1973 a Library Attendant was appointed and library was managed by the Attendant upto 1975. During 1975 a Librarian was appointed and the library functioned a little bit smoothly, with efforts of the Librarian and Library Attendant.
Meanwhile in the year 2002 the Sri Sadashiva Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha was renamed as Rastriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University) Sri Sadashiva Campus,Puri under Rastriya Sanskrit Sansthan. There after again its status was changed in the year 2020 through an enactment by the Parliament of India. The Rastriya Sanskrit Sansthan was declared as Central Sanskrit University and our institution was named as Central Sanskrit Unversity, sri Sadashiva Campus, Puri.
After the appointment of Dr. Umesh Chandra Pandey as the First Librarian and on his transfer Sri Ashok Kumar Choudhury Asst. Librarian Gr.1 was his successor to manage the library. Dr. Krishna Chakravorty took over the charge as librarian from Sri Choudhury on his transfer and Sri Choudhury came back again and took over the charge from Dr. Chakravorty . Dr. Benudhar Mohapatra Asst. Librarian Gr.II took over the charge from Sri Choudhury. Sri Avadhesh Kumar Kaushik joined as Librarian and Library charge shifted to him. Sri Kaushik handed over the charge to Sri Ramroop Gautam , Librarian and Sri Gautam handed over the charge to Miss Monika Verma (Asst. Librarian). On her transfer the post is vacant and one Attendant is managing the library with a MTS under the guidance of Dr. Om Narayan Mishra, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Education( Incharge-Librarian).

Mean while after the institution was taken over by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan up to now, funds for the library collection and development have been raised hugely and the library is functioning smoothly with library Digitalization, automation and other facilities for users like Students, Research Scholars, Faculty Members, Non-teaching members and outside dignitaries as well.

हमारी लाइब्रेरी 1865 से 100 साल से अधिक पुरानी लाइब्रेरी है। ओडिशा राज्य के पुरी जिले के श्रीरामचंद्रपुर गांव के प्रसिद्ध प्रख्यात संस्कृत विद्वान महामोहापाध्याय आचार्य हरिहर दाश इस लाइब्रेरी और संस्कृत संस्थान (टीओएल) के संस्थापक हैं। आदर्श वाक्य संस्कृत शिक्षा और संस्कृति के साथ-साथ भगवान जगन्नाथ संस्कृति का प्रचार करना था। पुस्तकालय और संस्थान को अयोध्या राज्य में बलरामपुर राज्य के महाराजा सर दिग्विजय सिंह बहादुर के.सी.एम.आई द्वारा दिए गए दान से चलाया गया था। इसलिए पुस्तकालय संग्रह बहुत कम था और कोई पुस्तकालय पेशेवर नहीं था।
समय का पहिया गुजरते हुए संस्थान को एक संस्कृत विद्यालय में उन्नत किया गया जो दान द्वारा भी चलाया जाता था और पुस्तकालय की स्थिति समान थी। वर्ष 1918 में फिर से इस क्षेत्र के एक प्रसिद्ध संस्कृत विद्वान महामोहपाध्याय श्री सदाशिव मिश्रा, काव्यकांता के प्रयास और निरंतर प्रयास से स्कूल को संस्कृत कॉलेज में अपग्रेड किया गया और कॉलेज का नाम उनके नाम पर सदाशिव संस्कृत महाविद्यालय रखा गया। यह भी शासन द्वारा स्वीकृत अनुदान से चलता था। बिहार ओडिशा का। इस अवधि के दौरान पुस्तकालय का ऐसा कोई विकास भी नहीं हुआ।

प्रथम लाइब्रेरियन के रूप में डॉ उमेश चंद्र पांडे की नियुक्ति के बाद और उनके स्थानांतरण पर श्री अशोक कुमार चौधरी सहायक। पुस्तकालय के प्रबंधन के लिए लाइब्रेरियन Gr.1 उनके उत्तराधिकारी थे। डॉ. कृष्णा चक्रवर्ती ने अपने स्थानांतरण पर श्री चौधरी से लाइब्रेरियन के रूप में कार्यभार संभाला और श्री चौधरी फिर से वापस आए और डॉ. चक्रवर्ती से कार्यभार संभाला। डॉ. बेनुधर महापात्र सहायक। लाइब्रेरियन ग्रेड II ने श्री चौधरी से कार्यभार संभाला। श्री अवधेश कुमार कौशिक लाइब्रेरियन के रूप में शामिल हुए और लाइब्रेरी चार्ज उन्हें स्थानांतरित कर दिया गया। श्री कौशिक ने श्री रामरूप गौतम लाइब्रेरियन को तथा श्री गौतम ने कुमारी मोनिका वर्मा (सहायक लाइब्रेरियन) को चार्ज सौंपा। उनके स्थानांतरण पर पद रिक्त है और एक परिचारक डॉ ओम नारायण मिश्रा, सहायक के मार्गदर्शन में एक एमटीएस के साथ पुस्तकालय का प्रबंधन कर रहा है। प्रोफेसर, शिक्षा विभाग (प्रभारी-लाइब्रेरियन)।

राष्ट्रीय संस्कृत संस्थान द्वारा अब तक संस्थान को अपने कब्जे में लेने के बाद से अब तक पुस्तकालय संग्रह और विकास के लिए धन जुटाया गया है और छात्रों, अनुसंधान विद्वानों, जैसे उपयोगकर्ताओं के लिए पुस्तकालय डिजिटलीकरण, स्वचालन और अन्य सुविधाओं के साथ पुस्तकालय सुचारू रूप से कार्य कर रहा है। संकाय सदस्य, गैर-शिक्षण सदस्य और बाहर के गणमान्य व्यक्ति भी।

Library Rules: LIBRARY GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. Readers should observe strict silence inside the Library. Noise, disturbance or unruly behavior is forbidden in any part of the library and library building.
2. Reading room will be open on all working days for the staffs, students & Research Scholars.
3. Library books will be issued on daily basis to Staffs, Students & Research Scholars.
4. Books will be issued for a period of 15 days for staff and students and 30 days for Research Scholars.
5. Transfers of books from one patron/borrower to other will not be entertained in any circumstances.
6. Library materials must not be taken out of the library unless a Library staff has properly issued them.
7. All books and personal belongings must be shown to the staff at the library exits whenever required to do so.
8. Readers are advised not to leave their valuable items like money, passport, credit card etc. at the reading room and stack room. The library shall not be responsible for any loss or damage of the personal belongings of the users.
9. Mutilation and theft of library materials are offences punishable by law. Appropriate action will be taken by the Library against offenders.
10. Library books and documents must be treated with honour, so that it is prohibited to underline, marking, scratching, damaging, mutilating, stealing, library materials or property will invite disciplinary action against the defaulters.
11. The library will not be held responsible for the loss of any personal belongings of users.
12. The library staff has the right to ask users to leave the library if they are causing a disturbance.
13. The library staff has the right to ask a non-member to leave the library.
14. Readers should not carry books from one floor to another and should leave the books on the reading/re-shelving table after consulting.
15. Readers should not talk or discuss as they may disturb other readers. Reading halls are meant for individual study and research only.
16. Users should not rest or keep their feet on tables, chairs, shelves, etc.
17. Students are entitled to renew the books for an additional 15 days, if others do not demand the books. Not more than one such renewal will be allowed. At the time of each renewal the books should be produced before the Librarian.
18. Any document issued may be recalled by the Library before the due date of return without assigning any reason and the borrower has to abide by the decision of the Librarian.


LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP RULES


1. All the staff, students and research scholars of this campus is eligible for library membership.
2. A library card will be issued to the eligible members from the circulation counter.
3. Members must produce their valid library membership card when borrowing the books and while visiting the library.
4. Members must check to see that all library materials in their possession have been properly checked in/out to them before leaving the library.
5. Library membership cards, when lost, must be reported immediately in person to the Circulation Section along with an undertaking that the member concerned will be responsible for any book taken on the library card.
6. Library membership cards are not transferable and must be produced whenever requested by Library staff and should be deposited to the library before applying for the NOC.
7. Members are held responsible for all materials charged to their cards.
8. Members will be held responsible for any mutilation including defacement found in library materials when returned. They must check and report any mutilation found at the time of issuing the book.
9. Members must report the loss of library materials immediately to the Circulation Section of the Library and they must pay the compensation for the lost book.
10. Any book not returned in response to a final overdue notice would be considered as lost and the member would be asked to pay compensation for the lost book.
